Shannon didn’t feel safe at home.
She and her 6-year-old son were living in a dangerous situation involving an alcoholic father. Unable to get her son’s father to leave, she had no place to turn. The next day after dropping her son off at school, another parent’s mother shared the option of Good Sam’s Emergency Shelter program. We brought Shannon into our facilities and she stayed with us for about a month. We were able to provide her with a room, clothes for her son, and meals for the entirety of their stay. “It served what I needed at the time,” Shannon says. The security systems helped her feel safe until she was able to get back into her own housing.
Now, eight years later, Shannon is thriving. She is working at WellSpan, married with more children, and is excited about future vacation plans coming up with her family. Shannon is also a regular volunteer with Good Sam. She is involved in LCBC’s “Be Rich” campaign and loves to volunteer at our shelter facilities. “It’s amazing to see how much the Good Sam has grown and improved,” she says.
We are so proud of Shannon, and thankful for her heart to give back.
